With their hair in Victory Rolls and their best frilly pinnies on, our fantastic volunteers turned the clock back 70 years to throw an amazing afternoon tea for local mothers on Mothers’ Day this year. 

The brainchild of The Stonehouse Gang’s Debby and Carol, this event – part of the Gang’s 80th anniversary celebrations – aimed to provide local moms with the opportunity to put their feet up and relax whilst being served a delicious afternoon tea … although we think some dads and young people slipped in there to when they saw the delicious delights on offer!

Held at the club on Burnel Road, the event was packed out with 1940’s revellers enjoying the traditional decoration, a brew and a bit of music from the time. Some of our fantastic volunteers helped wait on for the day – even making traditional handmade pinnies out of sheets … living up to the motto ‘make do and mend’.

Speaking about the day, volunteer Teresa Hall said; “I thoroughly enjoyed the day, even if I do have wrinkled fingers from all the washing up”

One of the guests, Charlotte Lowe added on Facebook after the event; “Thank all for a lovely afternoon. Well done for all the hard work ….. the effort paid off”
