Duke of Edinburgh Awards

For the past seven decades, the Duke of Edinburgh Awards have inspired and transformed the lives of millions of young people from all walks of life. From volunteering to physical activities, life skills to expeditions, achieving a DofE Award is a passport to a brighter future, valued by employers and universities.

As the first licensed youth club in the UK, the Stonehouse Gang supports over 30 young people every year to gain their award.

Open to young people aged 14 to 25 years old the awards are split into a three stage challenge – bronze, silver and gold. Each stage is made up of the following elements:

  • Physical – some sort of sport
  • Expedition – A walk, cycle, horse ride or canoe
  • Skill – It could be anything from DJ-ing to calligraphy
  • Volunteering – Doing something to give back
